For two centuries the Laing family has been at the forefront of the Scottish jewellery trade. Established in 1840 by James Laing, the company quickly became known for exceptional design and superior craftsmanship – a reputation that has only grown over some 175 years. Laing has a long tradition in both the manufacture and wholesale of fine jewellery and watches. Up until the beginning of the 20th century we manufactured and repaired clocks & watches, designed jewellery & silverware and sold to others stores. Equipped with all the right skills, the family then made an easy transition to wholesaling. As Scotland’s oldest family jeweller the Laing surname is now a byword for quality and exceptional customer service. We have helped many a happy couple and watch enthusiast find just the right piece – building up a customer relationship which often grows into friendship along the way.
Innovative and creative, James was a pioneer in the world of watch-making, designer jewellery and silverware. Manufacturing and repairing clocks, watches and jewellery he quickly gained a reputation as an expert craftsman with a passion for excellence. Through the years his devotion to the intricate art of fine jewellery and watch-making has been passed from generation to generation. Today, some 175 years later, Laing Edinburgh continues the exceptional family legacy under the ownership of Michael Laing OBE, the great-great-great grandson of James Laing.
Our Edinburgh store first opened its doors in 1978 and has been going from strength-to-strength ever since. In 1995, Michael was able to fulfil a long-held ambition of his, as LAING purchased Parkhouse & Wyatt, another historic family jewellers that was established in Southampton in 1794. A second Parkhouse store was opened in Cardiff in 2000. This marriage of family businesses meant that Michael was able to spread our quality and expertise to more customers in different parts of the UK, offering the personal and attentive customer experience that LAING had long been known for.
At LAING we understand that investing in a beautifully crafted piece of jewellery or luxury timepiece is always a noteworthy event. Our team will therefore do all they can to make your purchase a very special experience. In-store you’ll find jewellery and watch experts who are always available to chat. We also have fluent Mandarin speakers to guarantee everyone a five star experience. We want you to enjoy viewing our collections and experimenting with different designs and luxury brands. No matter what you have your heart set on you’ll find we offer a truly bespoke service in relaxed and elegant surroundings.
As a sixth generation family jeweller, LAING embraces both original, contemporary design and the classical time-honoured traditions of our predecessors. To this day, each and every stone is handpicked in Antwerp by Michael to ensure outstanding cut, colour grade, clarity purity and quality of diamond.
We understand how important it is to choose just the right piece and at Laing Edinburgh you’ll find a beautiful and diverse range of bespoke diamond collections – each with its own story to tell.
Please note that the prices indicated here are a guidance only. Each diamond is entirely unique and as such pricing will vary depending on the stone. The price of a diamond is dependent on the clarity, colour and carat weight and of course availability. We travel to Antwerp to
hand-select each and every diamond we sell, to ensure we are offering you the best possible diamond for within your budget.
Over the last 200 years, the Parkhouse name has become synonymous with luxury and quality. Parkhouse is also part of the Laing family and we feel that the time is right to share the values and vision under one name.
As a result, Parkhouse is now Laings. Don't worry though, we will still be stocking the same sparkling jewellery and finest Swiss watches!
Our Southampton store has also now moved to the beautiful Westquay centre. We look forward to welcoming you in store soon!
