CAPITAL SEVENS
LAING were proud to sponsor this year’s Capital Sevens Rugby Tournament held at Boroughmuir RFC’s home ground at Meggetland, Sunday 20 th April 2008. A day that saw the home team win the cup!
Blessed with good weather the day at Meggetland was filled with bonne homie, fast rugby and fun. Old (and not so old) ex-internationals were also heavy on the ground with John Frame, Norrie Rowan and Scott Hastings to name but a few.
Hollywood also made an appearance as Billy Boyd, star of Lord of the Rings and an official Ambassador for the Princess Royal Trust for Carers, announced a partnership between PRTC and Boroughmuir RFC, thus creating the new Capital Sevens Tournament.

BASLE & GENEVA 2008
Every year, the leading luxury brands, watch houses and designers exhibit their latest creations in BASLE and GENEVA. It is the largest and most prestigious event in the watch and jewellery industry and sets future fashion trends.
Michael Laing and Susan Thomson, our jewellery buyer, selected the latest designs from Chopard, Bulgari and Mikimoto, among many other great designers. Anthony Burtenshaw then joined Michael to select the winning new models from Rolex, Patek Philippe, Cartier, Breitling, Omega, IWC and TAG Heuer to ensure we have the finest range of watches.
Michael says “rose gold is emerging as a more popular metal in jewellery and watches, and large watch dials are still the most fashionable. In spite of a gloomy economy, the trade fair was very buoyant with many brands reporting record sales”.

The Most Beautiful Night of the Year
LAING is supporting the Muir Maxwell’s charity fundraising event “The Most Beautiful Night of the Year”.
This is one of the most prestigious events in the Scottish calendar featuring 5 of the fashion capitals of the World. Think of Edinburgh, London, Paris, Milan and New York and think of Missoni, Cartier, Christian Lacroix, Ben di Lisi, La Perla, Diane von Furstenburg and Chloe. The fashion houses will be revealing their autumn 2007 collections on the catwalk.
LAING is donating an 18ct white gold and diamond Cartier La Dona watch and accompanying travel clock valued at £20,000. The Muir Maxwell Trust was founded to help children with epilepsy and hopefully the Trust will raise lots of money at this event.
With Angela Rippon as MC, Christopher Biggins as Auctioneer, Nicola Benedetti providing some of the music and the Scottish Ballet modelling some stunning jewellery from LAING’s international collection, it is clearly an evening not to be missed. |
