History

This page, you’ll notice, has been labelled “History.” And justifiably so: we have plenty of it. Six generations’ worth.

LAING and the Laings have been in the jewellery trade since 1840. It was the current owner’s great-great-great-great-grandfather who set up the company with support from the Duke of Hamilton.

Initially, LAING manufactured and repaired clocks and watches designed our own jewellery, silverware and sold to other stores.  Then, at the turn of the 20th century, we switched from manufacturing jewellery and watches to wholesaling.

We’re proud to be Scotland’s oldest family jeweller. Others may have iron in their blood; we have platinum, gold and silver.
